Constituency work

My job as MP for Leeds Central is to help all my constituents, whether they voted for me or not. If you have a problem that you think I can help you with, please do get in touch.

My surgery times are below. And my local campaigns are here.

Or find out what local constituents have said about me recently here.

What I can help you with

As your MP, my job is to try and help you with any issues that Parliament or central government is responsible for. I can also take up matters with Leeds City COuncil. I can help with:

  • Problems with the Inland Revenue, CSA or utilities
  • Hospitals
  • Benefits, pensions and national insurance
  • Immigration
  • School and education
  • Crime and antisocial behaviour
  • Local issues

You can also contact me about general issues of concern and government policy, like the environment or transport.

The only things I can’t really help you with are with private disputes with other individuals, with companies who have sold you faulty goods, or interfere with decisions made by courts.

What I can do

For most problems, I’ll write on your behalf to the relevant department or official or to the Minister involved.

What my constituents say

“Hilary believes strongly that everyone should get a chance to share in Leeds’ economic succes. Unemployment is down and schemes like the New Deal have benefitted local people, but there is more to do. I know Hilary will fight for better job opportunities.”

Medical Student Suresh Pushpananthan from Little Woodhouse

“I am a first time voter and I’m backing Hilary. I have seen him out and about and I know how hard he works for people in his constituency. He is very easy to get on with, and I can always speak to him if there is a problem that needs sorting out.”

Paul Gabriel from Beeston

“I’m voting for Hilary because I know he works hard for people in Leeds Central. As a working mother, Hilary helped to make sure that I was benefitting from the Government’s Working Families Tax Credit. Whatever your problem, get in touch with Hilary and he will help.”

Tamsin Stephenson from Richmond Hill

“HIlary Benn has won a lot of respect as our MP since he was elected in 1999. His approachability and determination to do the best for his constituents has heled thousands of local people.”

Katherine Mitchell from Leeds Central

“The introduction of free off-peak local bus travel for everyone over 60 hfrom 2006 is a real boost for me”

Lilian Mulligan from Holbeck

“I’m delighted with Labour’s £200 council tax refund given to all pensioner households over 65″

Tommy Stephenson from Richmond Hill
